Institute Wants FG To Intensify Efforts On Industrialization

The Polymer Institute of Nigeria (PIN), Abuja, has advised the Federal Government to create a conducive environment for the manufacturing sub-sector of the economy.

The PIN National President, Prof. Paul Mamza, made this disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview on Thursday in Abuja.

Mamza said that such efforts would ensure a value-oriented contribution towards the diversification of the economy in the country.

“Government should create a conducive environment for the manufacturing activities to thrive, which will ensure the revival of the ailing polymer industries.
“The Nigerian economic potential must move from over-dependence on crude oil proceeds to investment on technology and industrialisation.

According to him, this development has become imperative if the country must follow the path of economic recovery.
“We are at a crossroads and Nigerians have never had it so rough; the economy is in shambles while the recovery effort is slow,” he said.

According to him, the 21st century Nigeria must seek alternative modern technologies to enhance the socio-economic development of the country.
He said PIN offered a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes yearly on request by the industries to ensure growth and development of the polymer and allied industries in Nigeria.
Mamza said the institute was to promote, advance and develop the application of polymer science, engineering and technology in the polymer and allied industries.

PIN was established by the Company Act of 1968 in August 1991, though the Polymer Institute of Nigeria had been in existence since July 1989.

The institute is a professional body that prescribes standards of experience and efficiency in research and education in all facets of polymer science, engineering and technology. (NAN)  Read more
